Description
The 2024 Gold American Eagle brings together the old era and a new era for the coin series. Augustus St. Gauden’s enduring design will remain on the obverse of the coin. The reverse has the design that was launched in the summer of 2021.
This set includes all four denominations of the coin, which are the $50 (1 oz. of gold), $25 (1/2 oz. of gold), $10 (1/4 oz. of gold), and the $5 (1/10 of gold)
The set contains 1.85 troy ounces of gold.
On the obverse of each Gold American Eagle is the depiction of Lady Liberty from the $20 Gold Double Eagle coin. This image of Liberty showcases her figure in front-facing relief with a torch held out in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand. Her figure is encircled in this design by 50 stars, one for each of the US states.
The obverse design is rooted in the emergence of the USA as the world’s leading economic power. President Theodore Roosevelt commissioned Augustus St. Gauden to create was has become the most recognized design in history. This coin design, which was first released on the Double Eagle in 1907, was used as the obverse when President Ronald Reagan initiated the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. This act resulted in the release of the Gold American Eagle in 1986 with St. Gauden’s design on the obverse.
The reverse side reflects a new era for the US Mint. It includes the reeded edge variation for anti-counterfeiting protection.
The reverse of the 2024 Eagle features Jennie Norris’ majestic left profile of a bald eagle. The reverse includes the denomination of the coin and the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, “IN GOD WE TRUST”, “1 OZ”, and “FINE GOLD”.
