Description
Between 1849 and 1889, the US Mint created $1 Gold Liberty Coins, but they went through several design changes during the 40 years they were produced. As a result, there were three variations of the coin: the original (Type I), the 1854 revised version (Type II), and the 1856 revised version (Type III).
This $1 Liberty Gold Coin is one of the original Type I coins that were in circulation from 1849 to 1854. It contains about .048375 troy ounces of gold. This particular coin has been graded by the highly respected Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as MS63, indicating a near-perfect condition with only slight imperfections visible under magnification. To maintain the official MS grade, every coin has been kept in their individually sealed NGC certified slab.
James B. Longacre created the original design for the front of the $1 Liberty Gold Coin, which is known as the “Coronet.” The design features Lady Liberty wearing a crown with 13 stars encircling her profile, representing the 13 original colonies. The reverse design pays tribute to the agricultural industry of the time. It includes the nation’s name at the top, with the denomination and mintage date in the center. The open wreath around this information serves as a symbol of appreciation for the contributions made by farmers in the country.
With its rich history, exceptional condition, and rarity, the $1 Gold Liberty Type 1 – NGC MS63 coin is a highly valuable addition to any collection or investment portfolio.
